I wrote the title two days ago, but it's still valid. So I'm keeping it.
It's been three days in a row when all I've wanted was to be left alone, left nicely mushrooming in my bed with a bunch of TV shows, some chocolate and tea. But no rest for the wicked, so it seems.
On Wednesday I did my first shift of the London 2012 volunteering - we interview potential Games Makers(the people who'll be the actual volunteers during the games - from checking tickets to anti-doping procedures). It's a little exhausting, because there's a lot of talking and rapid note-writing involved, but it's also wonderful and humbling in a good way. All the people I've interviewed so far are just great - their experiences, skills, motivation enthusiasm! Makes the old inferiority complexes surface. But seriously - they're all perfect. I haven't heard anyone saying that their interviewees were less than ideal. If I can judge by this the 2012 Olympics will be a huge success, just because of all the great people making it happen.
They should pay me for all he words of praise.
After that I had to help out Slavka with her hair rollers - first time for everything. Next time we'll start earlier and use a bit of mousse. Otherwise I actually liked the result even if it wasn't quite what we wanted. We went to the Royal Philharmonic orchestra again - and this time was even better. I was nearly falling asleep but it wasn't because of the music - it was really, truly beautiful. It was Slavka, Marushka, Oli and me - the oddest group of people you can imagine, but I think we all enjoyed it equally. Dvorák writes the most breathtaking stories in his music, and Rachmaninov puts that Russian taste in and it works wonderfully, and Liszt can do no wrong it seems. There. Also, for those a little bored, we had a pianist who looked like a cricket and it was very amusing in a nerdy way :)
Yesterday when again all I wanted was to be left alone in my room, I had to go out with my coursemates. It was the last thing I wanted to do, but Slavka threatened me and Oli managed to guilt me into coming. Victoria was coming over and she was a little worried that there'd be no girls, so she told Oli he has to make me and Slavka come. So he did. Obviously, I was late - partly because Rao came over to pick up some of his stuff and I had to wait for him, partly because I'm just terribly lazy and slow. But in the end I'm glad I went - I have never enjoyed Trocadero so much, and sucked so bad at bowling, and let me tell you, bumper carts are made of awesome. Crashing into others has never been so cool, and there isn't a way how you could spend 3 pounds better. We came home with the last tube and were gloriously tired.
Today there's nothing I'd like more than mushrooming all day long. But Orinta is going to India tomorrow and I haven't seen her this year yet. So, another day when I'm not left alone. And I'll probably enjoy it.
